Call for Applications: "Youth Advocacy for Peace” Study Session

The United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY Peacebuilders) is pleased to invite you to participate in our Study Session Youth Advocacy for Peace in the Council of Europe, European Youth Centre, Budapest (Hungary), organised in cooperation with Fundació Catalunya Voluntŕria (FCV), Support Initiative for Liberty and Democracy (SILBA), Centro Internazionale per la Promozione dell’Educazione e lo Sviluppo (CEIPES), and supported by the Council of Europe, Youth Department of the Directorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation.

The purpose of the study session is to give youth peace NGOs an opportunity to reflect on advocacy, as well as to share practices and ideas on how to improve their advocacy work. It will be a space to exchange ideas, expertise and approaches on advocacy in the local, European and international level, by exploring diverse activities, possibilities and challenges related to youth peace advocacy. The outcome of the study session will assist youth NGOs of UNOY Peacebuilders’ network in their role as active stakeholders by engaging in national and international decision making processes related to peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
We are looking for participants who are:
-- aged between 21-30
-- already involved and active in youth work on a local, national or international level to participate in the study session
-- reside in a member state of the Council of Europe
Priority will be given to participants who
-- have experience in the fields of: youth work, peace building, conflict transformation, advocacy, social work, inter-cultural learning and / or cultural diversity
-- have prior experience in advocacy in the local, European or international level
-- are currently active in an organisation, program or project in the above fields
-- have experience with working in conflict and post-conflict areas and situations
-- have experience in working with policy-making institutions and its affiliated bodies
-- are committed to multiply the outcomes of the study session in their own work
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Where: The European Youth Centre Budapest (EYCB), Hungary
When: 14-20 October 2011 in Budapest (including arrival and departure dates)
Language: The working language will be English
Deadline for application: August 5th, 2012
Reimbursement of Participants’ Travel and Visa Costs: Travel expenses (the cheapest route possible only) and visa costs are reimbursed by the Council of Europe,

OBJECTIVES OF THE "YOUTH ADVOCACY FOR PEACE" STUDY SESSION
- Share understanding and perspectives on advocacy (definitions, concepts, different types of advocacy and campaigning)
- Share understanding in defining peace advocacy – what it is and what it is not, and what it includes
- Elaborate on the challenges, possibilities and limits of peace advocacy
- Exchange ideas, implemented projects and good practices that are related to peace advocacy
- Discuss the role of a youth network and how this can not only strengthen the advocacy of its members but also advocate with and on behalf of the network
- Share and explore practical tools to help guide members in the preparation and implementation of their visits and engagements in policy development /decision-making, including organising advocacy trainings
- Collect examples, experiences and case studies of member organisations´ engagements with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental international bodies and agencies like the UN, EU, etc.
- Design an advocacy action plan oriented to contribute to create a culture of peace for the network, as well as support for members/participants to design their own advocacy action plans
